Sugar Cookies For the Holidays
1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
3 cups all-purpose flour
3/4 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup unsalted butter, softened
1 cup sugar
1 egg, beaten
1 tablespoon milk
3 cups all-purpose flour
3/4 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup unsalted butter, softened
1 cup sugar
1 egg, beaten
1 tablespoon milk
INSTRUCTIONS:
Sift together flour, baking powder, and salt. Place butter and sugar in large bowl of electric stand mixer and beat until light in color. Add egg and milk and beat to combine. Put mixer on low speed, gradually add flour, or if you don't have a mixer use a fork to pull all the ingredients together. Roll up the dough in a long roll, cut in half, then wrap in waxed paper, and refrigerate for 1 hour.
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
Sprinkle surface where you will roll out dough with powdered sugar or flour. Once the dough is smooth and round cut up into quarter of an inch in thickness. If dough has warmed during rolling, place the dough for 10 minutes in the refrigerator to chill. Place at least 1-inch apart on greased baking sheet and bake for 7 to 9 minutes or until cookies are just beginning to turn brown around the edges. Let sit on baking sheet for 2 minutes after removal from oven and then move to complete cooling on wire rack. I like to dress up my cookies with plain sugar before putting them in the oven, or if you have some dark chocolate around the refrigerator place it on top for that little holiday touch.
