At the oldest city market in North America, we found a Nova Scotia specialties- Dulse. According to Wikipedia, Dulse is a “red alga that grows on the northern coasts of the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. It is a well-known snack food, and in Iceland, where it is known as söl, it has been an important source of fiber through the centuries.”
Scientifically, a handful of Dulse contains more than 100% of the daily amount of Vitamin B6, 66% of Vitamin B12, a day's supply of iron and fluoride. So being a helth freaks that eat way too much meat, I got a bag for CAD $3.75, so I guess it is cheap-ass enough compare to all the pills you have to pay.

Now you might think of Japanese Nori. The differences is the production of Japanese Nori mimics the paper making technique which pound the seaweed then lay them flat on a screen and sun dried, which lost certain taste of the ocean and that’s why the end product always have sea salt (or MSG who knows) on top of it as seasoning. The Dulse we got is directly from the sea and hand dry in its own form (probably rinse with fresh water before) and seasoned by direct evaporation of sea water. The taste is very fresh, oceanic and sometime quite salty. Some locals pass by and they say Dulse is a bar snack- people in the area drink it with beer all the times. We recommend to prepare a soup stock with it.
