Greenpoint's RED STAR will once again host the Third Annual "BEST WINGS IN BROOKLYN COMPETITION," in association with NY Waterway’s East River Ferry, on Saturday, February 25. Dozens of Brooklyn’s best purveyors will "throw their wing into the ring" in pursuit of borough bragging rights, greater glory, and just a whole heck of a lot of attention.
This event is FREE to the public, with FREE WINGS all day long, beginning at 2:00 pm. Visitors can conveniently travel to the festivities by taking the East River Ferry, stopping in Greenpoint at India Street, only blocks from the corner of West Street and Greenpoint Avenue where the event is being held. The Third Annual “BEST WINGS IN BROOKLYN COMPETITION” is also sponsored in part by YELP, THE BROOKLYN PAPER, and BROOKLYN EXPOSED, and a portion of the proceeds from the event will be donated to the DR. THEODORE ATLAS FOUNDATION’s Boxing Program, “Atlas Cops & Kids.”

Culled from more than 40 nominees – solicited via local bloggers, area foodies, etc. – these formidable competitors have been acknowledged by both “THE BEST WINGS IN BROOKLYN COMPETITION” and Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz to be among the best of the best when it comes to chicken wings in the Borough of Kings.
On Saturday, February 25th, the finalists will compete on-site at RED STAR in Greenpoint for two prizes: the People’s Choice Award (tallied by collecting the paper ballots from the nearly 2000 attendees on hand) and the Judges’ Award (a consensus vote on the part of our 5-member judging panel, which this year includes Jacob E. Osterhout, Features Editor for THE NY DAILY NEWS; YELP BROOKLYN’s Peter DeNat; Sarah Zorn, Foodie-in-Chief for THE BROOKLYN PAPER; Sharon Beason, Founder and Publisher of BROOKLYN EXPOSED; and CHOW/NY1 correspondent Liza DeGuia, the creator of FOODCURATED.COM.) The presentation of both the Judges’ Award and the People’s Choice Award takes place at 7:00 pm, and will be presided over by Borough President Marty Markowitz.
