okay, this isn't in new york, but golly, oh golly if one is EVER in denver. head down to the arts district which spans a couple blocks of santa fe drive. while on your gallery crawl, don't forget to pop into cafe sol. it's a little cafe you wouldn't think much of from the outside, but goodness, gracious inside is the best pozole i have ever had in my entire.
what is pozole you ask? wikipedia says it's pre-columbian but i was introduced to it by my mexican friend iris. she made it for me and it twas delicious. it's stew made pork and hominy, peppers, beans, cabbage, lettuce, oregano, radish, cilantro and lime juice. i got a heaping bowl for $4.50 (they use beef) and this is cheapass if i ever did see it. extra oregano on the side, cabbage and corn tortillas to dip in the soupy goodness.
also, don't forget the fresh fruit empanadas. they are a perfect dessert.

rants: it's in denver.
raves: seemingly bottomless stew with cheapass price tag.
