Casa Adela is a small hole in the wall located in the East Village, Manhattan. Once upon arrival the first thing your notice are the cute old ladies that work the counters and the tables, but their not those sweet old ladies who like to hold your hand as they take your order. NO they remind me of my grandmother, the old ladies who don’t take crap from people, they wont think you’re cute when you’re trying so desperately to speak in their language or try to make you feel better for that matter.
For example I went there tonight for the very first time (with no expectations), I thought to my self I should practice my Spanish since I visited Mexico, El Salvador and some other Spanish speaking countries. As I attempted to say “un pollo y arroz pro…” the little old lady cut me off by replying “huh”, very confused looking, then I replied “chicken with rice” and then she relied, “do you want yellow or white rice?” I felt so defeated and yet at home.
Some other ways Casa Adela make you feel at home is of course the food, I loved it! We ordered, half of a rotisserie chicken with yellow rice and black beans, roasted pork, side salad, and green double fried platanos also know as tostonas. It was amazing and to be honest I thought most Cuban place were somewhat bland and heavy, but there is nothing bland about Adela’s. However after inhaling my meal, I must admit I felt like it was thanksgiving, yup got food coma.
Tip: BYOB _ Bring Your Own Beer _ they don't sell Alcohol and don't care if you get it from the corner market.
TOTAL:
$17 plus tip
