Eating in Bulk
I know some of you guys have thought of it, paying just a little bit more so one meal could possibly last you for one day, even 2 in some cases. Well that was my assumption when we were dinning at Todai, located 6 E. 32nd St.
New York, NY 10016. I kept thinking for $30 I could eat out at least 3 times, but I wanted to test my theory and see how long my bulk eating would last.
As you know I don’t turn down any eating challenge, the air electrifying, as I observed the feast in font of me. First rule of eating in a buffet - never randomly pick, always see what is available, and selected your favorite and move down from the high to “ehh, I’ll eat it if, I was starving” low, ie frozen pizza that was left over from 2 weeks.
For some of you new to the concept of buffet (after all this is NYC the capital of non-eating models), “Todai is an upscale All-You-Can-Eat Japanese Seafood Buffet Restaurant. Todai offers quality food and services at an affordable price. Each restaurant is designed to create a unique family atmosphere that seats up to 500 patrons. In addition, each restaurant features a 160-foot seafood buffet counter with 40 different kinds of sushi, over 15 dishes are served at both the salad bar and hot entree island, and a dessert bar with over 20 different cakes and fruits.
Todai's extensive buffet counter serves a vast assortment of mouth-watering culinary delights. Only the freshest ingredients are used to prepare each entree to satisfy everyone's palate.” http://www.todainyc.com/
Lunch $ 28.95 (Mon-Thurs)
Dinner $ 31.95 (Fri, Sat, Sun, Holidays)
At those prices I couldn’t wait to eat my way toward my next 3 meals in one sitting. I started with the sashimi, combined with tuna rolls for my first plate and it was actually good, I repeated it couple more time. As I worked down my pyramid scheme, some sashimi salad, shrimp (shell intact), more random rolls and shrimp tempera made a guest appearance around my 3-5 plates. By this time I was getting full, but I still room for soba, fruit, and hand made hot crepes – yes they make it as you wait! SWEET! Now I was full as well as my accompanied guests, but they kept going, and going and going. It’s not hard to eat for 2 (or 3 or 4) when the Todai world is copious while in the cold outside world is going through a recession.

At the end of the night I was full, but in the morning I was craving me some hot dog. Oh well at least I gave it a good try, and it was definitely a good excuse to eat out again.
