Couple of years ago Kenneth and I went to Á Châu Deli, and ate their delicious “Á Châu Deli’s version of Bún Riêu ($6) noodle soup made of medium mungbean noodles and topped with actual crab pieces with shrimp paste, served in a tomato based broth and garnished with bean sprout, prawn paste, herb leaves, water spinach, and tomato chunks.” As we were digging into our tasty noodle soup I made a promise to come back and try their Banh Mi. Now almost 2 years later and a move to Brooklyn, prompted me to take a second look back at our hood. Chinatown the place we call home is going to be a sweet and salty memory in the near future for us, and for sure the scrumptious (and don’t forget cheap) treats is what we’ll miss the most.
But enough reminiscing and back to the issue that is more important, like the traditional Banh Mi offered at Á Châu Deli. Wondering around Chinatown after a refreshing run, while pondering what to eat, I found myself at Á Châu Deli. Got a customary Banh Mi with ham, pâté, and cured/bbq pork, with pickled carrots and daikon all enclosed in a crusty baguette, all for $3.75. I swear the sandwich was 12 inches and longer, as I ate the first half I was stuffed but reminded myself that I had a nice refreshing run, and down went the other 6 incher in 2 minutes flat.

The Banh Mi, is light in flavor, and not as sweet as most overly sauced bbq pork sandwich, most of the taste comes from the pâté and pickles harmonizing the flavors very nicely.
