Only if all Korean menus look this good, I would smell of fermented kimchee and Korean BBQ all day, everyday. Dok Suni’s located on 119 First Ave near 7th St is a cute little Korean eatery with a café look, all the food are very traditional but the interior ambiance is similar to a romantic café mostly found in the East Village/West Village.
Introduced by a very close friend of mine, she was afraid that it wouldn’t meet with my standard and to be honest I didn’t expect too much. As I had mentioned earlier this place is cute! and Korean restaurants are not really know for their cuteness, most eateries I have been to are very traditional or hole in the wall. So, I admit I did have my doubts but I have to give it up to my girl, the food is delicious! All entrees range from $10.95-$20.95 which is unreal for New York standards for those prices I’m going to have to make Dok Suni’s my second home away from home. I would recommend the bulgogi (marinated beef), and $17.95 and Hey-mul-jap-tang fresh shrimp, crab, squid and clams in a light, spicy broth with udon noodles $13.95. The spiciness of the soup is just like my mom makes and all the BBQ comes with side of raw garlic, jalapeños and lettuce to wrap the meat in.
Cute place with very affordable prices, however the portions are smaller then most Korean restaurants.
