REVIEWS:
JG Melon located on the Upper East Side is a causal old school tavern where all the NY wealth calls home. With your classic old money, new money and pretend money, I felt a bit out of place being the only no money, but once sited in the dinning area in the back room (bar in the front room) I felt at home. This was not just a bar it was a saloon where one could bring his kids and wife while having a few pints, a very nonchalant ambiance anyone could enjoy no matter where your money comes from.
But enough about the dam family, lets get down to the good stuff, JG Melon is know for their famously thick, juicy hamburger as a staple act on the menu. Hamburger is $8.25 (no sides) and cottage fried potatoes, $3.95 very similar to an English chip in the shape of a chip – it’s good but I would skip it and just focus of the burger. I got the beacon cheeseburger $9.25, a bit pricy for this cheapass but once I took a bite of the juicy beast of a burger I was in a euphoric state. The hamburger came nice and juicy and the beacon was perfectly fatty with a little chomp. To compensate for the high price burgers the tap beers range from $3-$4, it’s not quite a pint but definitely comes in a 12ozer.

Now I know some of you might think this is not cheapass and I would agree however a burger in the city is typically $6-$7 and I would have to rate JG Melon up there with Corner bistro – it’s that good.
