false hope! I went to the Buffalo Cantina thinking that it would be a good place to eat some home cooked Mexican food- HA! But before I start my rant let me start from the beginning, I am from San Francisco which is famous for good Mexican food epically the burritos (which is not Mexican, very Californian) and tacos. So when I first moved to NYC I thought finding good Mexican food would be a chinch, since New York is know for its diversity and culture. Little did I know many foodies have travel far and long for such a thing? Yelp, Citysearch and Craigslist where full of disappointed foodies that were dissatisfied with most Mexican/Mexican American restaurants. So I took upon my self on this challenge, found a small Mexican place that had great reviews by locals in Williamsburg.
The site http://www.freewilliamsburg.com, only had good things to say, so why not- right? Wrong.
At first arrival we were excited because the neighborhood looked somewhat similar to the Mission district back at San Francisco, however when we looked inside the restaurant it did not look as authentic. The people working there where very nice and had great service I ll give you that but the food was so bland, a bit shocking. I ordered the lunch special, junior burrito which came with a side of tortilla soup for $6.95 and Kenneth got the Carnitas tacos 2 for $6 ( kind of pricy). The beef burrito was good but no spices at all, the steak in the burrito was cooked well but I could barely taste the meat, due to the overwhelming mass of sour cream, the rice tasteless and salsa forgetaboutit. The soup that came with the jr. burrito - a BIG disappointment, tasted like canned soup with some fried tortilla strips.

Kenneth’s tacos were overall ok, again unexciting and when we put some of the house salsa on it tasted like blended tomatoes on top of a poor excuse of a taco for whiteies – no offense but I think east coast tacos are made for people with a low tolerance for heat/spice.
I want to PC (politically correct) about the whole thing but my overall opinion on east coasters have yet to catch up with the California, and yes I maybe biased but really for a city that is one of the most diverse places in the WORLD – there is a real lack of passion for food in the sense of food for real people (hear comes the rant part). Real people who can’t afford to go to the 5 star restaurants or people who have to support their families, we all deserve to eat well and good for a good price. New York you need to get your head out of your ASS.
