Cheapassfood is in San Francisco and on a mission to eat the most Mexican food in the Misson, my first stop is Taqueria Vallarta. I love this place when I am stumbling out of Phone Both (bar) or Pop’s (local dive/biker bar), Taqerica Vallarta is always there to comfort me with some smoking hot tacos for cheap. All tacos are $1.50, and options are el pastor, beef, chorizo, chicken and carnitas, sorry my vegan & veggies friends nothing for ya. Not that you would want your veggies mingling with the badass greasy grilled meats.
Open till the wee hours, the donut-shaped grill is always dependable when I come out of last call at 2 am, I know SF lacks the nightlife, but at least they have amazing Taqueria.
So this time around I am not drunk, but am very hungry and can’t wait eats me some tacos, went for the carnitas and el pastor, comes with a side of greasy sweet and slightly card caramelized onions. These little gems are to die for they are cooked with the oils from the meats. All tacos are made to order, the barboca dude dips about a third the corn tortillas in oil, and then toasts them on the giant donut pan. The tortilla come out hot, toasty and very supple in the meantime, the meats simmering around the edge of the pan juices, making them brilliantly fatty and savory. Once the little tacos were handed to me I had the option to pile on fresh onion, cilantro, and salsa.
What more could I ask for I was in heaven, noting beats a $1.50 tacos that fills my belly to rim, it is nice to be back The Foggy City for a little bit of RR.
